This project, which originated for documenta fifteen in 2022, bridges the social network between the Nongpho community and the local community in Kassel, Germany. It brings together dairy farmers from both regions, allowing them to exchange knowledge and expertise, despite geographical differences. The exhibition’s multimedia format, including video, music, light-sound, graffiti, dance, play, and other types of performances, encourages audience participation and fosters a sense of shared experience. Presented at the Thailand Biennale 2023 in Chiangrai, this project addresses the displacement of the Yuan people in Nongpho district, who migrated from Chiang Saen in the 19th century. The inflatable architectural sets, featuring a replica of a stupa and a temple hall base, symbolize the act of bringing to life a tangible representation of their heritage. The inclusion of a requiem ceremony and roundtable talk session further emphasizes the importance of preserving Tai-Yuan traditions and honoring their ancestors.

“Tai Yuan Return: On Transmission and Inheritance” stands as a poignant tribute to the Tai-Yuan people’s history and resilience. By reimagining their past and expressing it through an outdoor installation in an abandoned temple, the project provides a poignant reminder of their displacement and the need to preserve their heritage.
